Overall, the show was a success. A success in the same way God succeeds to crash a plane and kill hundreds. Okay, that was a joke, but maybe it got your attention. The show had a variety of artwork, to include printmaking, glasswork, metals, photography, painting and sculpture to name a few genres. One of the pieces that were a stand out piece of artwork was the digitally combined photographs by Joshua Eckhart. There were a total of four complete pieces of work by Eckhart, Home, Toledo, Stairway to Heaven and Krogers. Each piece was from a specific place and when the completed pieces were digitally combined they formed almost abstract pieces of work in a very wide format. There are several great pieces of artwork included in the show; this was one outstanding piece that happened to catch my eye.

The first idea is to create a website based on the political issue of gun control. The site will describe the pros and cons of stricter gun controls and be displayed in a creative and interactive way of learning the good and the bad of the given issue. I will take a position in the positive or negative when designing the site to persuede the user in one direction.
My second idea would also concentrate on political and at the same time religious views on abortion. A touchy topic, but if we don’t talk about it, it will continue. I will take a stance on the subject and try to argue my point. The site will be clear and concise and give both pros and cons to the subject, because I believe it is important to know both sides when arguing a subject no matter what it is or where you stand on the topic.

The web is generally easy to navigate. Easy to find buttons that are clear and concise in their intentions and direction. The article ‘Web Design before the Internet,’ which is linked below, gives some credit to a long time ago designer who impacted the digital design world more than they may have known. Ladislav Sutnar, a pioneer in information design, is credited for making the decision to place parentheses around the area code of a phone number when area codes were first introduced, due to the growing number of telephones in the world. This design element was simple yet made a ten digit number seem more manageable.
Personally, I feel that when something is easier to navigate, such as maps, websites, catalogues, etc. I tend to be more patient with them. Many of us take the ease of use of informational periodicals and tools for granted. The ease of use in information design has come a long way since the 60′s when a greater concentration was implimented into the design of informational media. Before the 60′s and even presently informational design was ignored moreso as the profit margin was more important. The profit margine can still be concentrated on but I feel that when the design aspect is looked at as just as important, if not more, the profit margins can be greater if not only by pennies!
The simplicity of information design is necesary and important as it creates a more user friendly and easily accessible dada bases for people of all ages and all levels of experience when it comes to finding and collecting information, let it be from internet to newspapers. There is no doubt that designs are always changing and evolving whether it be for the better, who knows, but they are indeed evolving and becoming ever more universal.
Basically when it comes to designing for the web, design for the masses. Make it universal and easily understood, unless you want to be completely unique and make it difficult like a puzzle, which can be cool. When it comes down to it, people want information easily accessible but it can also be functional and designed well. It definately helps a web page when it looks as good as the content is if not better.
The article can be found here, along with many other articles offered on the same page. A great resource for Steven Heller and other design related articles and essays.
